The only bathroom in this small ranch style house was dark and uninspiring, dating back to a remodel in the 70’s. Besides aesthetics, the main challenge was how to create a more ergonomic shower, some storage space, more light and better ventilation, without the ability to actually enlarge the bathroom due to county building code restrictions.

The bay would hold a storage unit and allow us to put in a shower seat, without encroaching on the original footprint of the bathroom. A large, operable acrylic block window would satisfy three requirements at the same time – light, ventilation and privacy.

The large built-in unit is customized to allow for ample storage, yet visually broken up by including an open space for towels. The cabinetry is veneered with rifted oak, providing the warm and pleasant feel of wood, yet at the same time a modern look.

The small custom vanity has a wall mounted faucet, under-mount stainless steel sink and quartz surface making it easy to clean and matching the contemporary look of the rest of the bathroom. All cabinetry is made from formaldehyde free plywood.

To bring in additional daylight we installed a sun tunnel in the center of the ceiling, making artificial light almost obsolete during the day.
