What to do with the pink brick stone fireplace in a ranch house? We built out this fireplace with columns to create a focal point for the living room and used natural plaster and leftover countertop materials for the hearth as finishes. The mantel piece extends to the left to connect with a built-in that conceals TV and stereo equipment. Taking a little bit of space from the garage behind the living room allowed us to create a deep storage space without protruding into the living room.

This built-in was designed to replace oak with white tile "kitchen cabinetry" that graced this niche in an otherwise contemporary living room. The objective was to create a stand-out furniture piece that would provide storage as well as ample space for display of artifacts, pictures etc. Fiddleback maple veneered doors with contrasting bubinga trims are used as the unifying design element, giving the built-in a strong geometrical definition as well as a vivid and warm look at the same time.

This modern dining table features a 1.5" solid maple top with walnut accents. The top appears to float on legs that taper off towards the floor and that connect to the middle of the table rather than its corners. A trellis connects the legs and lends stability to the table. The table top’s edges are rounded off towards the bottom, which make the table top appear thinner than the actual 1 1/2” inches. - Patent pending.
