Before "green" became a fad, we designed this master bathroom which features many green elements - from high density insulation to natural plaster and from low VOC paint to formaldehyde free cabinetry. This bathroom was featured in California Home and Design - "A portfolio of some spectacular California kitchens and baths."

The existing bathroom only had a small tub (not visible on this picture) and a toilet, but no vanity or storage and and very low ceilings. The client’s desire was to have an updated, full master bathroom, that would, however, not look out of place in this home of the 1920's. Furthermore, the clients desired environmentally friendly finishes.

To gain space the old laundry room was connected to the bathroom. A soaking tub was placed in the area with the highest ceiling to allow dual use as a shower. The focal point of the room is a solid wood vanity, custom designed along with the other cabinetry. Lightness and openness are achieved by avoiding the need for a shower door, designing hanging cabinetry and an open vanity.

Geometric, contemporary designs chosen for all fixtures and furnishings establish a clean and functional look. Travertine stone combined with simple, white tile, rough wall plaster and the wooden furniture create an interesting interplay of textures and materials, while brining a natural feel to the room.
